Saturday, June 30, 2018. New York City – Thousands of people rallied and marched today in NYC in support of undocumented families.
The “Zero tolerance” policy of the Trump administration has separated thousands of children from their parents. The United States of America government put children in cages. Now they are jailing families, but they have not yet reunified all the families already separated.
Although It was hot today in “The Capital of the World,” the weather did not stop people from marching form Foley Square Park in Manhattan to Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn.
Organizers said on Facebook: “On June 30, New Yorkers will join together with dozens of other cities in a National Day of Action to Fight for Families and to demand that Donald Trump and his administration stop separating kids from their parents! Families belong together, and we need to end this — NOW!
Every day, this administration threatens the very future of our communities. The conditions these children are being subjected to is deplorable and un-American. We hope to see thousands of people in the streets and at the border on June 30th demanding this policy end!”
MoveOn.org said, “Donald Trump and his administration have cruelly separated thousands of children from their families. Now they’re jailing families — and they haven’t yet reunified the families already brutally torn apart.
But we won’t allow it to continue. On June 30, we’re rallying in Washington, D.C., and around the country to tell Donald Trump and his administration to permanently end the separation of kids from their parents. End family internment camps. End the “zero-humanity” policy that created this crisis. And reunify the children with their parents.
Trump and his administration have been systematically criminalizing immigration and immigrants, from revoking Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to ramping up intimidating ICE tactics.”
The New York Immigration Coalition posted this message on Facebook after the rally and march, “The last marchers stepped off at 2pm from Foley Sq! We are so proud of #NYC showing the world, that #OurNY is #ImmigrantNY and we will continue to fight to End Family Separation and Detention! Today over 25,000 New Yorkers turned out to show the beauty of our City and State!”
An online petition on FamiliesBelongTogether.org says, “Don’t let Trump’s latest move fool you: Children are still being jailed, and they’re still being separated from their families–both at the border and at ICE detention facilities across the country. Demand the Trump Administration stop caging children and jailing their parents IMMEDIATELY — and reunite jailed children with their families. Families belong together, and free!
President Trump created a humanitarian crisis by separating thousands of children from their families and jailing them. But Trump’s Executive Order signed on June 20th is not the solution; it simply jails whole families indefinitely and does nothing to reunite families that have already been torn apart. Children belong with their families and in communities, not in cages or behind bars in even worse conditions.
The Trump administration is causing lifelong trauma to children — whether taken by Border Patrol, jailed alongside their parents after seeking safety, or snatched from their school by ICE. Their claims of compassion are false — this crisis is proof that this administration does not care about the wellbeing of children or families. Families deserve to seek asylum without fear of jail or family separation.
Our demand is clear and not negotiable: Trump’s policies of caging children and jailing their parents must be stopped immediately — and families must be reunited!”
